How Far in Advance Should You Book a Wedding Photographer?
When to book your wedding photographer, why popular dates go fast, and what to do if your wedding is soon.
Short answer: book your wedding photographer 9–12 months before the wedding, or as soon as your date and venue are confirmed. For peak-season Saturdays and public holidays, earlier is safer.
Why book your photographer early?
A photographer can only be at one wedding per day. Popular dates — spring and summer weekends, December and long weekends — are often booked first. Booking early also gives time for a pre-wedding shoot and relaxed planning.
What to do before you book
- Confirm your date and venue.
- Look through full wedding galleries to make sure you love the style.
- Have a call to check you feel comfortable with the photographer.
- Read the contract and deposit terms.
Is it too late if my wedding is in a few months?
Not necessarily. Weekday and off-peak dates are often still available. Send an enquiry with your dates as soon as possible.
